On with I’m Not Complaining!

My other publication, The Journey of Rama, is back! New episodes are forthcoming, but I’m re-publishing the story from the beginning, so if The Journey of Rama is new to you, now is a good time to start.

Here’s an excerpt from Episode One - Before the Beginning:

The birdsong ceased. Flapping wings replaced the singing as all the forest creatures fled. Something was changing, and it wasn't good. The cloudless sky darkened, and the holy men looked up, but they saw nothing but the dimming blue sky. They continued chanting, hoping that all would return to normal.

Suddenly, they heard deep and raucous laughter all around them, and out of nowhere, an object hurtled from the air directly into the center of the fire pit, crashing into the flames, scattering sparks and chips of burning wood.

"What is that?" one of the younger men exclaimed as the holy men stared at the fire in horror.

"That," the eldest sage said softly, "is the head of a goat with the eyes removed."

"But what does it mean?"

"It means the demons are on the move," the sage replied, "and our ceremony is in ruins." The laughter grew louder as goat's blood began to rain from the sky.

The Ramayana is my favorite story. Gods and demons, royalty, swashbuckling adventure, spiritual truths, romance, betrayal, good versus evil, an epic quest, a timeless love story, and the greatest monkey you’ve ever met.

After a much-too-long hiatus, The Journey of Rama is now on Beehiiv. This episodic retelling of the epic Ramayana, in modern English, can be found at this link:

Although the Ramayana is widely known and celebrated around the world, not many Westerners are familiar with this epic saga. The Journey of Rama is based on the version written by Tulsidas, but it’s written in prose and contemporary language. I hope I do the tale justice.

Please take a look, and if you like the beginning, subscribe so you won’t miss an episode. And please share it with anyone and everyone - it’s a story for the world.

Thanks for your attention — next week we’ll be on about something completely different.
